The National Development and Reform Commission has recently approved a report on the feasibility of building a civil airport in Bengbu, East China’s Anhui province, according to the provincial development and reform commission.

The current project of the airport is designed to handle 950,000 passengers and 5,000 tons of cargo on a yearly basis, the document said.

The project includes a 2,600-meter-long runway, a terminal building covering an area of 12,000 square meters and 11 parking aprons. About 1.3 billion yuan ($202.3 million) will be injected in the project, according to the document.

Situated in Tenghu village, Feihe township, Huaiyuan county, the airport is called Bengbu Tenghu Airport. It will be some 39 kilometers away from downtown Bengbu and 26 kilometers from Huaiyuan.
