The first announcement on the environmental impact assessment of the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hefei section of the high-speed railway from Shanghai to Chongqing and Chengdu has been released, according to rail authorities. The Shanghai-Nanjing-Hefei section railway will link Shanghai with Taicang, Nantong, Taizhou, Yangzhou and Nanjing in Jiangsu province and Anhui province’s Chuzhou and Hefei. It will roughly run along the northern bank of the Yangtze River. The 554.09-km rail line is designed to allow trains to run at a speed of 350 km per hour. The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway is a major part of China’s rail network featuring eight east-west and eight north-south high-speed rail lines.
