Defending champion Wang Chunyu of Anhui claimed a gold medal in the women’s 800m final at the 14th National Games. Wang clocked 2:01:02, bagging the eighth gold for the province. Gui Ruyi, an athlete also from Anhui, finished eighth in 2:07:09. Born in Suzhou, Anhui, Wang won a gold in the women’s 800m at the 13th National Games. She set her personal best with 1:57:00 at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, finishing fifth in the woman’s 800m event. She made history by becoming the first Chinese woman to run in an Olympic 800m final. Wang won a silver medal in the women’s 400m final on Tuesday. She will also compete in the women’s 1,500m event.
