On June 22, Volkswagen Anhui Automotive Co., Ltd. (VW Anhui) held the event of body-in-white(BIW) off the assembly line and delivered the first batch of local parts in the Hefei Economic Development Zone. Significant progress has been made in the trial production of the company’s first new energy vehicle (NEV). The BIW is the assembled vehicle infrastructure and is the first essential part of the vehicle manufacturing process. On the same day morning, in the body workshop of VW Anhui MEB Factory, VW Anhui’s first BIW successfully rolled off the assembly line. It is understood that the new body workshop of VW Anhui covers an area of 140,000 square meters. The construction took only six months and was completed in February this year. Currently, VW Anhui is pushing forward the production work at full speed. The pre-mass-production vehicles will be rolled off the production line this year and mass production will be started in the second half of 2023. In recent years, Hefei has been taking the development of the NEV industry as an essential means to transform and upgrade the manufacturing industry to improve its quality, expand the volume and increase the efficiency; focusing on building an industrial system with advanced vehicle technology, safe and controllable key components, sound infrastructure, and rich scene applications. Currently, 305 enterprises above the designated size at the upstream and downstream supply-chain of the NEV and Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) industry have been gathered in Hefei. The NEV industry chain is becoming more and more perfect there.
