East China’s Anhui province launched a series of activities to expand domestic demand and boost consumption in 2021, the Department of Commerce said. More than 35,000 enterprises took part in the activities, with a total turnover of 26.7 billion yuan ($4.2 billion). Retail sales of consumer goods exceeded 2 trillion yuan, bringing the province to the 7th spot in the country. It saw a year-on-year increase of 17 percent, the highest in the Yangtze River Delta region, according to the department. The province will continue holding those activities this year, with nearly 5,000 ones to be expected. They will cover four areas of consumption - automobiles, home appliances, catering and services, and be mostly based on the Internet and pedestrian streets. Notably, online shopping carnivals will continue this year as e-commerce plays a major role in boosting consumption. Some 1,200 retailers will sell ten kinds of products with Anhui’s characteristics during the shopping festivals. In addition, Anhui will step up effort to promote local goods and services nationwide and attract more consumers from outside the province, said the department.
