Governor Wang Qingxian delivered an annual government work report at the 5th Session of the 13th Anhui Provincial People’s Congress on Monday. The report reflected on Anhui’s progress in the past year and set priorities and targets for 2022. Major achievements in 2021 Anhui’s gross domestic product (GDP) exceeded 4 trillion yuan ($630 billion) in 2021, up more than 8 percent from a year earlier. The fixed-asset investment increased 9.4 percent. Retail sales of consumer goods exceeded 2 trillion yuan, and foreign trade value topped 100 billion dollars. Value-added output of major industrial firms grew around 8.9 percent. Urban residents’ disposable income increased about 9 percent, while rural residents’ disposable income went up more than 10 percent. 709,000 urban jobs were created. Grain output hit a record high of 40.9 million tonnes. 12 sci-tech results were given National Science and Technology Awards. The number of invention patents per 10,000 people reached 19.9. 12,842 enterprises were registered in Anhui Pilot Free Trade Zone. Over 1.1 million market entities were added. Targets and priorities for 2022 The report set the economic growth target at more than 7 percent for 2022. The province aims to increase its retail sales of consumer goods, imports and exports, urban residents’ disposable income and rural resident’s disposable income by around 9 percent, 9 percent, 8 percent and 10 percent, respectively. Over 650,000 urban jobs are expected to be created. The report also set the CPI growth target at 3 percent. The province will take measures to ensure stable and sound economic growth, raise sci-tech innovation capacity, and make the manufacturing industry more competitive, according to the report. Other priorities included building a modern industrial system for the service sector, promoting rural vitalization, and working toward carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
