Anhui’s consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 1.7 percent year-on-year in October, up from September's 0.7 percent increase, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Thursday. Food prices declined 1.3 percent year on year, contributing to 0.39 percentage points in the CPI decrease. Vegetable prices increased 14.6 percent and sea food prices climbed 10.9 percent, while pork prices dropped 43.0 percent. Between January and October, the eastern Chinese province’s CPI edged up 0.7 percent from the same period a year ago. On a monthly basis, the province’s CPI increased 0.6 percent in October, with 0.6 percent growth in urban areas and 0.5 percent increase in rural areas. The month-on-month CPI growth was 0.3 percentage points higher than that in September. Food prices rose 0.5 percent and non-food prices went up 0.6 percent. Prices of consumer goods and services increased 0.9 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.
