Industrial firms with annual turnover over 20 million yuan (US$ 3.1 million) in Anhui province posted a year-on-year increase of 17.3 percent in value-added output in the first half of 2021, higher than the national average of 15.9 percent, data from the Department of Economy and Information Technology of Anhui showed. Hefei, capital of the province, saw a 29.5 percent increase, ranking first in the province and second among provincial capitals in the Yangtze River Delta region. Between January and June, the province’s major industrial enterprises reaped a total profit of 139.7 billion yuan, up 52.4 percent from the same period a year earlier. Over 90 percent of the province’s 41 industries saw increases in value-added output. Industries of raw materials, information technology, automobiles and pharmaceuticals contributed to 60 percent of the provincial industrial growth. The value-added output of the information technology sector rose 39.4 percent, that of the automobile industry increased 31.9 percent and that of the pharmaceutical industry went up 46.3 percent. The province's investment in technological transformation recovered steadily during the first half of the year, with a year-on-year increase of 19.4 percent. The growth rate was 5.7 and 8 percentage points higher than the investment in industry and fixed assets, respectively.
