China Railway Corp and local rail authorities gave nod to a preliminary design for a high-speed railway from Nanchang and Jingdezhen in Jiangxi province to Huangshan of Anhui province, according to a letter of approval issued a couple of days ago.
The railway, linking Nanchangdong Railway Station with Huangshanbei Railway Station, stretches 289.8 kilometers, 30.9 percent of which are in Anhui.
The rail line will be built at a cost of about 47.02 billion yuan ($6.79 billion). Investment in the Anhui section is estimated at 12.33 billion yuan. It will take four years to complete the project.
There are ten stations along the route, including seven new ones. It passes the city of Huangshan, home to the world-renowned Huangshan Mountain, as well as Yixian county and Qimen county in Anhui.
The project will play an important part in increasing communications between the middle and the eastern regions, and promoting the development of the Poyang Lake Ecological Economic Zone and the South Anhui International Culture & Tourism Demonstration Zone, the authorities said.
