With the official opening of Wuhu-Huangshan Expressway, all 59 counties in Anhui province are connected by expressways. This has become an important milestone in the history of the province’s transport development, the provincial government said at a press conference on Thursday. From the opening of the first expressway connecting Hefei and Nanjing in 1991 to the connection of each county by expressways yesterday, Anhui’s expressways achieved historic leapfrog, running over 5,000 kilometers. During the 13th Five-Year Plan Period (2016-2020), great progress was made in road expansion and road network, which played a key role in joint connection within Hefei metropolitan area and Yangtze River Delta area. Six counties in Anhui will get over the problem of being away from expressway entrances during the 2021-2025 period. The province will build a smooth and efficient expressway network and ensure that every county in Anhui have access to expressway to support the integrated development of Yangtze River Delta area and the rise of the central China region during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). By 2035, for fully achieving China’s strong transport network and integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta area, Anhui will build expressways with 10,165 kilometers. (By Li Ruichuan)
