Xidi, a village in East China’s Anhui province, was inscribed on the list of Best Tourism Villages 2021 at the 24th Session of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly on Thursday. Over 1,000 participants from 135 countries attended the meeting in Madrid, Spain, aiming to restart and lead the sustainable recovery of tourism severely hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Xinhua News Agency. The Best Tourism Villages initiative aims to promote the role of tourism in protecting rural villages, along with their landscapes, natural and cultural diversity, local values and activities, including local gastronomy. Xidi was one of the two villages in China to make the list, which consisted of 44 villages worldwide. Located about 40 kilometers from the world-renowned Huangshan Mountain, Xidi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a national 5A scenic spot.
