Sponsored by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and organized by Hefei Municipal People's Government and Anhui Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, the Asia-Pacific Forum on Science and Technology Parks 2017 was held in Hefei on November 28.
Focusing on the theme of “Sharing Development Experience and Building a Prosperous Asia Pacific Region”, the forum aimed to strengthen exchanges among governments, science and technology parks and academic institutions, provide a communication platform for newly-established and existing hi-tech parks and promote the sharing of experience among science and technology parks in the Asia Pacific region for win-win cooperation.
Nearly 50 foreign participants from 21 countries in the Asia Pacific region and more than 70 domestic participants from governments, universities, research institutes and high-tech enterprises attended the forum.
Song Guoquan, member of the CPC Anhui Provincial Standing Committee and Party chief of Hefei City, Ling Yun, mayor of Hefei and Wang Xin, director-general of Anhui Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, attended the opening ceremony.
The forum consisted of four sub-forums, namely, the Role of Government in Developing Science and Technology Parks, Innovative management of Science and Technology Park,Collaboration of Multiple Stakeholders in Developing Science and Technology Park, and Belt Road Initiatives and Building a Network of Science and Technology Parks.
Representatives of governments and research institutes from Thailand, India, South Korea, Russia and Indonesia respectively introduced their successful experience and practice in sci-techpark construction, personnel training and enterprise development.
Hefei Municipal People’s Government and relevant universities and research institutes also shared their achievements in promoting scientific and technological innovation, fostering innovation entities and participating in the Belt & Road construction, as well as futuredevelopment orientation.
It was the first time UNESCAP had such a forum in Hefei. People believe this event isconducive for the city to promote its image as a “Lake City of Innovation”, participate in international scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, and implement the building of the comprehensive national science center. Moreover, it is also beneficial for Anhui to speed up the program to develop itself into an inland “new high ground” for opening-up and to betterAnhui in its five major development actions for a more beautiful province.
