The provincial government of East China's Anhui convened a meeting Thursday to arrange work on the innovation-driven growth of economic and technological development zones.
Speaking at the conference, vice governor Yang Zhenchao urged all economic and technological development zones to consolidate industrial base, stimulate innovation and promote green and intensive development.
Guided by the the central government's Five Development Concepts - innovation, coordination, green development, opening up and sharing - the province should step up efforts to reform systems and mechanisms and upgrade economic and technological development areas, Yang noted.
Economic and technological development zones, especially the state-level ones, have contributed a lot to the province's economic and social development, said the vice governor.
However, those areas are in need of innovation-driven development as their leading industries lack strong features, systems and mechanisms are out of date, Yang stressed.
The official also called for more government guidance for the special zones and better incentives to support their expansion.
The meeting followed a video conference held by the State Council, China's Cabinet, to improve assessment systems of national economic and technological development zones.
