Made-in-Hefei home appliances, automobiles, machines and chemical materials will be shipped through to Russia and West European countries in 2015. In addition, the city will work together with its neighbors to launch air cargo services to Europe and the United States.

The news was announced at Friday's press conference held by the municipal government to brief on its latest efforts to expand the city into one of China's top ten provincial capitals in terms of major economic indicators.

"Made-in-Hefei" to take off in Europe

Thanks to dedicated train and flight services, exporters in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, as well as in Hefei Economic Rim, a metropolitan area consisting of the city and its four neighbors, will be able to transport their products to foreign markets without bothering to tranship them.

The city, which has launched international cargo trains to Mid-Asia, is slated to extend the route to Russia in the first half of 2015 and probably to West Europe in the second half, according to the Bureau of Commerce.

The bureau added it would step up efforts to build an economic demonstration zone around the Xinqiao International Airport. Moreover, the airport plans to open two international cargo flights, one to Europe (Amsterdam) and the other to Europe and America.

451 EV charging piles to dot around the city

Starting on September 1, China will exempt purchase tax on new energy cars. This incentive is believed to give a boost to green car sales in Hefei, which has had 9,109 electric vehicles (EVs) hit the road since it began to pilot the national program for promoting new energy vehicles in 2009.

"We will put more new energy buses, taxis into service," said the Bureau of Science and Technology, adding that 451 charging plies were under construction to try to meet the increasing power demand.

Export-oriented economy to boom

After Shanghai founded the country's first free trade zone (FTZ), an application for the establishment of an FTZ in Hefei was drawn up, according to the local business watchdog.

The existing Hefei Export Processing Zone took the seventh place among China's 51 special economic zones of the same kind, in terms of Jan-Jun exports.

In addition, the municipal government has been wooing investors for a bonded zone emerging in March, aiming to develop it into an industrial cluster highlighting panel display and information technology. Some efforts have paid off, as a package of framework agreements have been reached, said the bureau.

Meanwhile, the Hefei Port is constructing its second-phase project. Upon completion in December, the bureau said, it can handle 500,000 twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUs).
