99.3 percent of potable water in prefecture-level cities in Anhui province reached the standard in February, according to the Department of Ecology and Environment of Anhui. The department on Tuesday released a report on the water quality of urban centralized potable water sources in February. 41 water sources were monitored in 16 prefecture-level cities of the province last month. 29 out of them were surface water sources and the rest were underground ones, the report said. The intake of potable water reached 134.527 million tons, and 133.627 million tons of water, or 99.3 percent of the total, were up to standard. All the surface water sources were qualified, while only one of the underground sources underperformed with exceeding fluoride and sodium. The centralized potable water source refers to the in-use, standby and planned water sources that connect the water pipe network delivering water to consumers and have a certain water intake scale (the water- supply population is generally more than 1,000).
