"How to divide household garbage? All you need to do is remember the 'seven-character formula' on the billboard of the waste segregation booth. For example, 'throw glass and metal and coke bottles, paper boxes and plastic into the blue container', and so on." Wang Nianshi is a member of the Wulong Community Neighborhood Committee of Hualong Town, Jixi County, and also a "booth manager"of the local waste sorting system. On April 17, she went to the waste segregation booth she is in charge of to guide residents on how to separate different types of trash and dispose them in the right place. In order to further promote the management level of household garbage reduction, recycling, and cleaning, Jixi County is now experimenting a "waste segregation booth management system" through pilot projects to enhance local waste sorting work in multiple aspects and improve residents' living environment and quality of life. According to the county's regulations, for each pilot unit, the main person in charge will work as the "general booth manager", and other personnel responsible for particular fields will work as "booth managers". Staff members will be designated as administrators, supervisors, and volunteers, and they will be grouped in the form of "administrator+supervisor+garbage sorter+volunteer" and assigned to certain booths. Jixi County is now mobilizing a variety of public groups including party members, mass organizations, volunteers, and sanitation workers, to conduct waste separation instructions, publicity, and inspection work. "Booth managers" are responsible for the overall operating conditions and results, and shall carry out regular inspections. This new mode of waste disposal system is playing an exemplary role all over Jixi. The local government is planning to gradually expand the "booth manager system" to the entire county starting this May based on the experience drawn from the pilot projects.
