The automotive industry is a key and pillar industry in Anhui. Currently, new energy vehicles (NEVs) and intelligent connected vehicles are the "new hotspots" of development. Anhui is vigorously promoting them as one of the top ten emerging industries, with the NEV industry leading the development of the automotive industry in Anhui. In the past three years, the production of automobiles in Anhui has maintained a growth rate of over 20%. In the whole year of 2022, the province's automobile production reached 1.747 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 17.4%. The production of NEVs reached 527,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 108%. Both the total automobile production and NEV production ranked 7th nationwide, setting new historical highs. NEVs have become the main driving force for the development of the automotive industry in Anhui. The best proof is that the production of NEVs in Anhui increased by 1.4 times year-on-year in 2021 and doubled in 2022. The development of the NEV industry has effectively promoted the improvement of the quality, scale, and efficiency of the automotive industry. Currently, the scale of the automotive manufacturing industry in Anhui is still growing and maintaining a good development momentum. According to the latest data from the Anhui Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology, from January to May 2023, the automobile production in Anhui reached 801,000 units, ranking 3rd nationwide, and the production of NEVs reached 258,000 units, ranking 4th nationwide. Behind the impressive achievement of Anhui's automotive industry is a complete industrial foundation, industrial chain system, and industrial layout, which are the new ecological environment of the automotive industry that Anhui is striving to build. At a time when NEVs are reshaping the global automotive industry, China has become an important role that cannot be ignored in the world's automotive industry. In recent years, Anhui has attracted key companies in auto industry clusters such as NIO, BYD, and Volkswagen Anhui, and has accelerated the gathering of upstream and downstream enterprises in the huge auto parts industry. Chery, JAC, NIO, BYD Hefei, Hefei Chang'an, Volkswagen Anhui, CAMC, Anhui currently has 7 complete vehicle enterprises, and has established a strategic layout of "one chain and three lines" with three main directions: passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and special vehicles. It covers various technical routes such as fuel, pure electric, hybrid, and hydrogen fuel, and includes passenger vehicles, buses, and light, medium, and heavy-duty truck series products. Under the leadership of leading vehicle enterprises, Anhui has established a complete industrial chain system that includes complete vehicles, engines, vehicle bodies, chassis, interior and exterior decorations, power batteries, and motor controls. In 2022, Anhui had more than 1,000 large-scale automobile industry chain enterprises, forming a relatively complete industrial system. The layout of the automotive industry in the province has become more reasonable, presenting a new pattern. According to the information from the Anhui Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology, currently, Hefei and Wuhu are the "dual-core" drivers, while cities such as Xuancheng, Anqing, Ma'anshan, Fuyang, Huainan, Lu'an, Chuzhou, and Bengbu are cooperating in multiple points. A number of county-level automotive parts industry clusters, such as Changfeng, Mengcheng, Sixian, Guangde, Huaining, Tongcheng, and Yuexi, are flourishing. The coordinated development of complete vehicles and auto parts has significantly improved Anhui's local supporting capabilities, and the agglomeration effect is gradually emerging. In recent years, Anhui has established a relatively complete foundation for the NEV industry, and the industrial ecology is becoming increasingly optimized. Anhui has advantages, conditions, and foundations for focusing on new energy industry. The "call to action" for the development and expansion of industrial clusters has been sounded, and it is imperative for Anhui to accelerate the construction of a NEV industry cluster with international competitiveness.
