Anhui province was rated as A by China National Intellectual Property Administration in terms of annual protection of intellectual property rights (IPR), according to an assessment result recently released by the administration. In 2021, the eastern Chinese province took the lead in the nation in introducing measures for inspection and assessment of protecting IPR. Relevant government agencies, including the Administration for Market Regulation of Anhui and the Department of Justice of Anhui, deepened the reform in IPR protection, improved policies on IPR protection and a diversified dispute resolution mechanism, and promoted regional cooperation in IPR law enforcement. The number of valid invention patents hit 121,700 at the end of 2021. Meanwhile, more than 1 million valid trademarks were registered in the province. The number of invention patents per 10,000 people reached 19.9 as of last December, up 29.2 percent from the same period a year earlier. In 2021, 10,920 IPR cases were handled by courts in Anhui and 482 IPR criminal cases by public security departments. The province ranked 8th in China, according to a national assessment of IPR development.
