A total of 431,000 high school students in East China’s Anhui province are taking the nation’s college entrance examination, also known as Gaokao, up 4,000 from last year, according to local education authorities.
Among the candidates, 196,000 are liberal arts students and 235,000 are science students, said the Anhui Education Examination Authority. There are 14, 625 examination rooms at 304 testing sites around the province. In addition, 1,375 back-up rooms and quarantine examination rooms have been set up in case students need to sit separately due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 75,000 teachers and staff members are engaged in organizing the exam, together with over 1,200 medics. Students have been reminded to follow the examination rules and COVID-19 containment regulations while sitting the test. This year’s online grading remains unchanged as more than 2,000 teachers from high schools, colleges and universities are required to grade papers in Anhui University, Anhui Normal University, Anhui Agricultural University, Anhui Jianzhu University and the Anhui Education Examination Authority. Students are expected to know their scores on June 23.
