Hefei, capital of East China’s Anhui province, reported a GDP of over 1.1 trillion yuan ($172.8 billion) in 2021, up 9.2 percent year-on-year, statistics showed. In terms of GDP, the city ranked 19th among major cities in the country, up one notch from a year earlier. The city posted the second highest GDP growth among top 20 Chinese cities, following Wuhan, capital of Central China’s Hubei province. Districts and counties in Hefei also had impressive economic performance last year. Feixi increased its GDP by 13.7 percent to 101.8 billion yuan, becoming Anhui’s first county whose GDP surpassed 100 billion yuan. The GDP of districts of Baohe, Luyang and Shushan, the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone and the Hefei High-Tech Industry Development Zone also exceeded 100 billion yuan. The Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone ranked 10th among more than 200 national economic and technological development zones in the country in 2021, up from 11th in 2020, according to the evaluation results unveiled by the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.
