East China’s Anhui province exported 26,000 tons of tea during the first five months this year, up 3.2 percent from the same period a year ago, customs data showed. The exports were worth 720 million yuan (about US$111 million), down 2.3 percent year on year. In May alone, the province’s tea exports reached 5,000 tons, with a value of 150 million yuan, down 13.7 percent and 22 percent, respectively. Green tea exports, worth 690 million yuan, made up 95.4 percent of the total, while black tea exports accounted for 3.7 percent. Africa was the major overseas market in the Jan-May period as the province exported 640 million yuan of tea to the continent, up 5.7 percent from a year earlier. Huangshan, a prefecture-level city known for the Huangshan Mountain, accounted for over 90 percent of the province’s total tea exports. In the first five months, its tea exports grew 9.9 percent year-on-year to 23,000 tons, worth 650 million yuan. Meanwhile, four of Anhui’s top five tea exporters are located in the city.
