A series of cultural events will be held in East China’s Anhui province on June 9 in celebration of the nation’s Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, the provincial department of culture announced at a press briefing on Tuesday.

The Merdian Gate Square of the Middle Capital of Ming Dynasty (1388-1644) in Fengyang county will be the main venue for the celebrations, including intangible cultural heritage shows, folk custom shows, as well as events related to the historic site, which was given national-level archaeological park status in 2017.

Visitors will be able to enjoy cultural and folk performances, such as flower-drum dance, gong and drum beating, folk song singing, paper cutting and egg carving.

Set by the State Council for the second Saturday in June, the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day marks a significant step in China's cultural development and heritage preservation, and is renewing public interest in traditional Chinese culture -- especially among younger generations.
