A high-speed railway connecting Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province and Huangshan in Anhui province is slated to open to traffic on a trial basis on December 25.

The exciting news was announced at a meeting held on Thursday by the Transportation Committee of Hangzhou Metropolitan Area, which consists of Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Shaoxing and Quzhou in Zhejiang province and Anhui’s Huangshan.

The 265-km rail will allow trains to travel at a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour.

The line runs from Hangzhou’s Xiaoshan, Fuyang, Tonglu, Jiande and Chun'an to Jixi, Shexian and Huizhou in Anhui.

Once opened, the travel time by train between Hangzhou and Huangshan will be cut to 1.5 hours from the current 3.5 hours.

The rail passes a number of tourist attractions, including seven 5A-rated ones, 50-plus 4A-rated ones and over ten state-level forest parks. Among them are world-renowned destinations like the West Lake and the Huangshan Mountain.

11 pairs of trains will ply between Hangzhou and Huangshan on a daily basis from December 25 to January 4. The number is likely to be increased to 36 from January 5 on.
