The tourism market in East China’s Anhui province boomed during the Spring Festival holiday from Jan 31 to Feb 6, with increases in tourist volume and revenue, according to the Department of Culture and Tourism of Anhui Province.

The province received 23.17 million tourists during the weeklong holiday, representing a year-on-year increase of 10.5 percent, and total tourism revenue stood at 14.68 billion yuan ($2.3 billion), up 12.3 percent from a year earlier, statistics from the department showed.

The number of tourists reached 74.3 percent of the level in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic. The tourism revenue recovered 67.1 percent compared to the pre-pandemic level.

During the traditional holiday, the tourism market in Anhui was dominated by urban outings and short-distance family visits. Rural tourism, sports and recreation were also popular.

A list of 200 specialties and 100 featured restaurants released by the department attracted many foodies.

Cultural venues such as libraries, museums and art galleries were open as usual during the holiday. They launched more than 3,000 activities both online and offline to provide cultural feasts for people.

Ice rinks and snow arenas in the province gained popularity during the holiday as the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games ignited a passion for winter sports among the Chinese.
