Yangtze River Delta railways to handle 22 mln trips during holiday

Railways in the Yangtze River Delta region are predicted to handle more than 22 million passenger trips during the upcoming May Day holiday travel peak, according to China Railway Shanghai Group.

The travel peak will last from April 29 to May 6.

The five-day holiday and well-under-control COVID-19 pandemic are expected to fuel a boom in railway trips during the travel peak. Many passengers will be tourists and family visitors.

The major destinations will be popular tourist cities around China. Busy rail routes will include Beijing-Shanghai, Shanghai-Nanjing, Shanghai-Hangzhou, Nanjing-Hangzhou, Hangzhou-Shenzhen and Hefei-Fuzhou.

145 additional trains will operate during the travel peak to cope with the surging demand, the group said.
