[Photo by Liu Yucai] Jiulong Mountain (literally "Mountain of Nine Dragons") is located in the central region of Dabie Mountain, a famous old revolutionary base area in the history of China. The name of the mountain derives from the shape of its nine closely linked peaks. Surrounded by water on three sides, they look like nine dragons roaming around in a cirlce formed by lakes and 72 other peaks. The site of CCP's well-known "Lixia Festival Uprising", Dawang Temple, is located right beside Jiulong Mountain. This uprising which happened at the central area of Dabie Mountain launched the first shot against the Kuomingtang authority at the time. It contributed greatly to the establishment of revolutionary bases in South Henan as well as West Anhui and the development of the Chinese Red Army. Today this place has been transformed into a patriotic education base. (Translated by Li Yuxin, Feng Fanxi)
