Brief Introduction to Education of Anhui

The province has accelerated the development of its education sector.  At the end of 2008, 34,982 graduate students attended graduate schools affiliated to different universities. University student population continued to grow, there were 93 universities and colleges, with the total number of registered full-time university and junior college students reaching 808,276. About 277,085 registered students attended secondary vocational schools (excluding the secondary trade and technical schools) throughout the province. The student populations of the 782senior high schools, 3,181 junior high schools and 16,116 primary schools were respectively 1.34 million, 3.1million and 5.204 million at the end of 2008. The enrollment rate for children entering junior high schools was as high as 97.78 per cent. The enrollment rate for children of school age was 99.54 per cent.
