On July 30th, the shooting events of the Chengdu FISU World University Summer Games were held at the Chengdu Shooting Sports School. The Chinese team, consisting of Xia Qi from Hefei Normal University, and his teammates Duan Zhicheng and Liu Shuai, won the men’s 25-meter rapid-fire pistol team championship with a total score of 1736 points, adding another gold medal to the Chinese delegation. In addition, Xia Qi also achieved fifth place in the men’s 25-meter rapid-fire pistol individual final held at 1:30 pm on the same day. Xia Qi was born in 1999 in an ordinary working-class family in Huaibei City, Anhui Province. His interest in shooting began at the age of eight when he hit many balloons in a shooting range in his hometown park for the first time. Since then, he has had a strong interest in shooting and often asked his aunt, who is engaged in shooting sports, for shooting techniques. In 2010, his parents sent him to the shooting team for more professional training. From 2011 to 2013, Xia Qi gradually emerged and won several gold medals in shooting events in Anhui Province. In 2017, Xia Qi, who was 18 years old, entered the College of Sports Science at Hefei Normal University. He was a shooting athlete jointly trained by the college and the Anhui Shooting Center. Two years after enrolling, the 30th World University Summer Games were held in Naples, Italy. Xia Qi was selected for the Chinese University Sports Delegation list in May of that year, becoming the only shooting athlete from our province to be selected for the Chinese delegation list at the time. In July and November of that year (2019), he won the individual championship in the men’s 25-meter rapid-fire pistol event and the men’s rapid-fire team gold medal in the German World Cup (youth group) shooting competition and the 14th Asian Shooting Championships. “After completing the schedule of this Universiade, I will continue to train in the professional team, constantly improve my abilities and strive to stand on the podium as a champion again," said Xia Qi on the field.
