According to the Department of Ecology and Environment of Anhui Province, the air quality in Anhui has steadily improved during the first quarter of this year. The proportion of days with good air quality reached 79.2%, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%, while the average concentration of PM2.5 decreased by 5.5% to 52 micrograms per cubic meter. Anhui ranks first and third in the country and first and second in the Yangtze River Delta in terms of improving these two indicators, respectively. "Thanks to multiple action plans implemented in recent years, Anhui has successfully achieved its targets for air quality improvement, resulting in significantly reduced haze days and increased citizen satisfaction due to a cleaner environment," said Wang Binbin, Director of the Air Environment Department of the Provincial Ecology and Environment Department. He also emphasized Anhui's efforts to eliminate all coal-fired boilers below 35 tons and all 400,000 "yellow-labeled" polluting vehicles since 2018. Last year, Anhui achieved its best air quality in history, with an average concentration of PM2.5 of 34.9 micrograms per cubic meter, and a proportion of days with good air quality at 81.8%, topping the provinces in the Yangtze River Delta. The annual average concentration of PM2.5 and the proportion of good air quality days both exceeded the targets set by the country. "The overall air quality in the first quarter shows a positive trend. We plan to continue improving air quality by promoting the control of pollution sources with project-based and engineering-based measures," said an official from the Department of Ecology and Environment of Anhui Province.
