Taihu, Anhui: improves ecology and restores wetlands

Pub Date:23-03-16 15:51 Source:cnanhui.org

In early spring, in the Zhonghe Wetland of Siqian Town, Taihu County, the grass had not fully turned green and the distant mountains were shrouded in mist, like a hazy painting.

The Zhonghe Wetland was once a garbage dump for nearby farmers, seriously affecting the surrounding environment and the water source of Huating Lake. In 2019, the Siqian Town launched a wetland protection and restoration project, covering an area of 150 mu (about 25 acres), planting 103 mu of pond cypresses and 47 mu of bald cypresses, and designated full-time personnel responsible for supervision.

At the stone processing site in Luoxi Village, Siqian Town, hand-planted osmanthus fragrans seedlings were sprouting green branches and emitting a refreshing fragrance. The site was a temporary quarry in the 1970s. In June 2021, Siqian Town conducted ecological restoration of the 9.45 mu area of the quarry, planted over 1200 osmanthus saplings, and passed the inspection and acceptance at the provincial and municipal levels.

Siqian Town is located in the northwest corner of Huating Lake in Taihu County and is one of the core scenic spots of the national 4A-level Huating Lake tourist area. It has scenic spots such as the Fotu Temple, the Zhao Puchu Cultural Park, the Zhuangyuan Mansion, and the Baishi Lake. Currently, Siqian Town is relying on the Huating Lake scenic area to develop cultural tourism into a pillar industry.
