Three cities in East China’s Anhui province were included in the annual list of China’s top innovative cities recently released by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, a research institute directly under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Hefei, capital of the province, took the 9th place, while Wuhu and Ma’anshan ranked 32nd and 48th, respectively, the list showed. Shenzhen in Guangdong province topped the list, followed by Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, Guangzhou in Guangdong province and Nanjing in Jiangsu province. Hefei ranked 9th with a score of 69.47. The ten most innovative cities also included Suzhou in Jiangsu province, Wuhan in Hubei province, Xi’an in Shaanxi province and Changsha in Hunan province. 72 cities in China were rated based on five indicators: innovative governance, original innovation, technological innovation, commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, and driving forces behind innovation.
