Anhui province was rated as the 8th most innovative region in China in 2021, local authorities said at a press conference on Tuesday. The eastern Chinese province has been among the top ten innovative regions for ten consecutive years, Luo Ping, head of the Department of Science and Technology of Anhui Province said. The province ranked 4th in the country in terms of enterprises’ R&D investment, up one notch from a year earlier. It took the 6th place by technological improvement, up two notches. In addition, it climbed five notches to the 6th in terms of industrial structure. The province made remarkable achievements in science and technology. A quantum computer prototype named “Jiuzhang 2.0” and a superconducting quantum computing system “Zuchongzhi 2.1” were successfully made. Local scientists set a new world record of achieving a plasma temperature of 70 million degrees Celsius for 1, 056 seconds. Major inventions also included a high-performance heterogeneous DSP processor, hydrogen fuel cell engine and high-precision reducer. The province won the 2020 National Science and Technology Awards for 12 projects. The number of high-tech enterprises exceeded 11,000, representing a year-on-year increase of 28.5 percent. The output and the value-added output of high-tech industries rose 23.4 percent and 18 percent, respectively.
