Anhui province is rated as the 8th most innovative region in China, according to a recent report on China’s regional innovation capacity in 2021. The eastern Chinese province takes the same place this year as that a year ago. It has been among the most innovative regions for ten consecutive years. The report sets the first-level indicators from five aspects: knowledge creation, knowledge acquisition, corporate innovation, environment for innovation and innovation performance. Anhui ranks 15th, 8th and 26th in environment for innovation, innovation performance and knowledge acquisition, up six, four and three notches from last year, respectively, the report shows. In addition, the province takes the 10th and 6th spots in knowledge creation and corporate innovation. Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Shandong, Hubei, Anhui, Sichuan and Shaanxi make the top ten, according to the document. The report also shows that from 2002 to 2021, Anhui showed a steady improvement in its rankings, and saw the biggest increase in the East China region. The report proposes that Anhui should make full use of its sci-tech resources to speed up technological research and development. The province should also step up efforts to build a sci-tech innovation union in the Yangtze River Delta, upgrade traditional industries and modernize industry chains, according to the report.
