East China’s Anhui province held an annual conference on Thursday to honor distinguished scientists, engineers and research achievements.
Li Jinbin, Party chief of the province, and Bai Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), presented Anhui’s top science award to Yu Shuhong and Wu Yican for their outstanding contributions to scientific and technological innovation.
Yu Shuhong is from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and Wu Yican from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, CAS.
Other leaders, including Li Guoying, governor of the province, Xin Changxing, deputy Party chief of the province, Li Meng, vice minister of science and technology and Xiang Libin, vice president of the CAS, were also present.
The conference honored 172 projects, with 21 winning the Anhui Provincial Natural Science Award and 151 the Anhui Provincial Scientific and Technological Advancement Award.
A foreign expert won the Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Cooperation Award.
Speaking at the conference, governor Li Guoying said Anhui has achieved remarkable progress in science and technology over the past year.
Li called for more efforts to enhance the driving force behind sci-tech innovation, facilitate the transformation of sci-tech achievements and promote the innovation-driven development.
Li also urged the province to create a favorable environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
During the past year, Anhui participated in a number of sci-tech projects that attracted worldwide attention and 13 projects won the State Science and Technology Award. It was ranked 10th among 31 provinces on the Chinese mainland in terms of innovation capacity.
