At the recently held Greater Huangshan World-class Leisure and Health Tourism Destination Construction Promotion Conference in Anhui Province, the four cities of Huangshan, Chizhou, Anqing, and Xuancheng in the Greater Huangshan region signed project contracts with key investment enterprises, with a total investment exceeding 12.5 billion yuan. At the same time, the Anhui provincial government signed a cooperative agreement with the China Cultural Industrial Investment Fund Council to jointly establish the Greater Huangshan Industrial Investment Fund with a total scale of 10 billion yuan. The Anhui provincial government also signed an intentional agreement for strategic cooperation with China Minsheng Bank to jointly develop Greater Huangshan. In the next five years, Minsheng Bank will provide no less than 30 billion yuan of intentional financing support for the construction of Greater Huangshan region.

In 2022, Anhui issued the "'14th Five-Year Plan' for the Construction and Development of Southern Anhui International Cultural Tourism Demonstration Zone," which for the first time put forward the concept of "Greater Huangshan." "Greater Huangshan" includes the entire regions of Huangshan, Chizhou, Anqing, and Xuancheng. In 2023, the four cities of Greater Huangshan received 270 million domestic tourists, with domestic tourism revenue reaching 285.75 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 72% and 84% respectively, accounting for 31.8% and 33.6% of the total tourism revenue of Anhui province.

In 2023, Anhui issued the "Action Plan for the Construction of Greater Huangshan World-class Leisure and Health Tourism Destination," proposing to create clusters of high-end service industries such as leisure and vacation, creative economy, sports events, medical and health care, exhibition economy, and cultural services in the Greater Huangshan region. It is estimated that by 2033, the total GDP of the Greater Huangshan region will reach 1.4 trillion yuan.

Relevant leaders from the Anhui Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism expressed that Anhui Province will benchmark against world-class standards, strengthen project-driven development, enhance the quality of scenic areas, and promote the construction of world-class tourism destinations with rich cultural heritage, including Huangshan, Jiuhua Mountain, Tianzhu Mountain, Xidi and Hongcun villages, and Yixian International Rural Tourism Resort. They will also focus on building boutique villages, actively attracting large groups, enterprises, and think tanks, and developing a number of "rural cities" and boutique tourism villages that meet international standards, as well as rural tourism cluster areas. Efforts will be made to create boutique routes that rely on convenient transportation, connect urban and scenic areas, and cultivate several distinctive routes that showcase the theme of "Greater Huangshan in Misty Rain, a Resting Place for the Spirit."
