On February 9, members of the Blue Sky Rescue Teams from across the country arrived safely in Istanbul, Türkiye. The earthquake rescue work, estimated to take 15 days, has officially started. Cheng Hao, a reporter from Anhui New Media Group, went out as a rescue team member and was responsible for the search mission using UAV.
According to Cheng Hao, the rescue team arrived at Istanbul Airport at 6:19 Beijing time on the 9th (1:19 local time on the 9th). Turkish people applauded and welcomed the team members in the waiting transfer area. Many local volunteers and Chinese students also came to provide translation services. After a brief communication with the local staff, the team members transferred to Malatya, the worst-hit area of the earthquake, at 5:30 local time. After arriving at Malatya Airport, the Blue Sky Rescue Team set up a base camp at a local elementary school. After dividing into groups, the team members immediately put on rescue equipment and took buses to the earthquake-stricken area to carry out the rescue. "There are six search teams and six rescue teams. The rescue team will do their job when the search teams find targets. I was assigned to the search team and is responsible for using UAV to investigate the situation," Cheng Hao said. It is reported that the lowest temperature in Malatya on the 9th was only minus 10°C, and the highest temperature was only minus 2°C. "Affected by the earthquake and bad weather, there is a shortage of warm-keeping materials such as down jackets, thick socks, blankets, sleeping bags, scarves, thermal clothes, gloves and hats in the disaster area." Cheng Hao said, "We have sent a message to the home front of the shortage of materials, and the Hefei Blue Sky Rescue Team has issued an appeal hoping to get support from all walks of life."
