And the main waterway project of diverting the Yangtze River to the Huaihe River and the ecological restoration test project is in full swing.

Aerial photo of Caizi Lake Wetland Park Caizi Lake is an important migratory stopover, wintering ground and breeding ground for migratory birds. There are 142 species of birds in 15 orders, 42 families, and a total of about 100,000 water birds here. It attracts many migratory and resident birds such as Hooded Crane, Oriental White Stork, Cygnet, White-fronted Goose, White Spoonbill, Bean Goose and Swan Goose. In order to protect the habitat of migratory birds, an investment of about 150 million yuan (about 22.2 million U.S. dollars) was allocated, and the original design was adjusted significantly: move the channel to the west by about one kilometer, away from the birds gathering area; fill the wetland on the east side of the waterway, and grow water-resistant plants such as bitter grass, black algae, and water caltrop to provide high-quality habitat for migratory birds.

Aerial photo of Caizi Lake Wetland Park In order to strengthen ecological protection, promote the construction of relevant water conservancy facilities, and ensure the water quality and flood control, Zongyang County has also invested billions of yuan in organizing and implementing projects such as the comprehensive treatment of the water environment in the county, the integration of rural sanitation, and the comprehensive treatment of sewage in towns and villages; connecting all major water bodies in the urban area, building a Wuqiwei Wetland Park, and supporting the tourism development along the project route. The project's construction of diverting water from the Yangtze River to the Huaihe River is accelerating. After the completion of the project, more than 50 million people along the route will be benefited.
