Industrial firms with annual turnover over 20 million yuan (US$ 3.1 million) in Anhui province posted a year-on-year increase of 9.8 percent in value-added output in May, higher than the national average of 8.8 percent, data from the Anhui Provincial Bureau of Statistics showed. The growth rate brought the province to the tenth place in China, and second among Six Central China provinces. The province’s industrial value-added output rose 19.2 percent in the first five months. The manufacturing sector saw a 10.1 percent increase in value-added output in May. The output in the mining industry and the power, heat, gas and water supply industry grew 4.9 percent and 11.6 percent, respectively. The industrial value-added output of state-owned enterprises went up 9.0 percent, that of foreign-funded companies rose 6.3 percent and private businesses registered an 11.3 percent increase. 32 out of 41 industries saw increases in value-added output in May, including the computer, communication and other electric appliance manufacturing industry (25.7 percent), the automobile industry (14.7 percent) and the pharmaceutical industry (80.3 percent). The province’s high-tech industry saw a 17.9 percent increase and the strategic emerging industries saw a 28.6 percent increase.
