Tumor patients will be treated by proton therapy in Hefei

Clinical trials based on proton therapy facilities have been launched by Ion Medical Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC(University of Science and Technology of China).

It’s good news for those tumor patients, because the trials are concentrated on works including patient screening and clinical therapy, according to Hefei Ion Medical Center.

As the top-notch radiotherapy technology in the world, proton therapy can achieve accurate stereotactic localization of tumors, and kill the cancer cells while effectively protecting normal tissue. Proton therapy has a wide range of indications, especially for tumors growing in complex locations such as ocular tumors and basicranial tumors.

In Oct 2015, the project of Hefei Ion Medical Center was launched. It is a modernized and internationalized cancer treatment center focusing on proton radiation therapy. The hospital became the first unit in Anhui province which obtained the configuration license of proton radiotherapy system this July.
