The Ministry of Science and Technology announced in late April that Hefei Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone was allowed to participate in China’s plan on building world-class hi-tech zone.
Initiated in 2006, the plan aims to develop a number of hi-tech hubs into first-class ones, with some world-renowned sci-tech parks like the Silicon Valley as rivals.
Six hi-tech zones were involved in the plan in 2006, including Zhongguancun in Beiing and Zhangjiang in Shanghai.
Hangzhou Hi-tech Zone in Zhejiang province and Suzhou Industrial Park in Jiangsu province participated in the plan in 2015.
The number of participants rose to 10 as Hefei and Guangzhou made the list on April 27.
Hefei Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone has grown into the largest of its kind in the province. There are more than 27,000 market entities in the zone.
