China's top economic regulator has selected two cities in East China’s Anhui province to pilot a national program aimed at improving the adaption of Chinese cities to climate changes, said the provincial development and reform commission Wednesday.

The National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC) launched the Climate-Resilient Cities program on a trial basis in 28 cities nationwide, as part of its effort to push China’s ecological civilization drive.

Hefei, the capital of Anhui, and Huaibei, a coal city in the north of the province, are among the 28 cities which will step up efforts to evolve into climate-adaptable cities by 2020. They are asked to foster the public awareness of climate changes, raise their monitoring and warning capability, launch related campaigns, and seek international cooperation, the commission said.
