Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui promoted coordinated development in various fields, made substantial progress in the integration of sci-tech industries, infrastructure, ecological environment and public services, and improved regional high-quality economic and social growth in 2019, the Anhui Provincial Development and Reform Commission said, citing a recent report on high-quality development index of the Yangtze River Delta.
The municipality and the three provinces will step up efforts to restore the economic vitality and foster growth drivers in the delta, according to the report.
The report gave a comprehensive and objective assessment of the high-quality development level and trend of the delta.
In terms of innovative development, Shanghai, Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, and Nanjing and Suzhou in Jiangsu province ranked among the top ten, followed by Jiangsu’s Wuxi and Changzhou, Zhejiang’s Ningbo, Zhenjiang in Jiangsu, and Hefei and Wuhu in Anhui province.
Shanghai and Suzhou were more open to the world than some cities in Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, the report said.

In addition, the average score of the 41 cities’ shared development index reached 80.2, roughly the same as that in 2017, according to the report.
