Anhui's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 1.7 percent year-on-year in March, higher than the 1.1 percent growth recorded in February, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed. Food prices declined 1.4 percent from the same period a year earlier, while non-food prices grew 2.5 percent. Prices of fresh vegetables, fruits and eggs went up 27.5 percent, 8.6 percent and 7.7 percent, contributing to 0.54, 0.15 and 0.05 percentage points of the CPI growth, respectively. Meat prices fell 25.5 percent, forcing the CPI down by 1.08 percentage points. Specifically, the price of pork slumped 41.8 percent. Prices of transport and communication rose 6.1 percent year-on-year in March. Prices of education, culture and entertainment grew 3.8 percent. In addition, prices of garment, housing and medical care increased 2.0 percent, 1.1 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively. The CPI expanded 1.3 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2022. On a monthly basis, the province’s CPI stayed flat in March. Food prices decreased 1.4 percent, while non-food prices edge up 0.3 percent.
