East China’s Anhui province will take eight measures to boost multi-tiered capital market and double the number of listed companies by 2025, according to a financial development plan for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25). Listed companies are known as the "barometer" of local economy. Anhui took the 9th place in the country with 150 listed companies as of March 22, 2022. 15 out of them were listed on the Science and Technology Innovation Board, also known as STAR Market, bringing the province to the 7th spot in the country. In addition, it ranked 5th as five companies launched IPOs at Beijing Stock Exchange. The province will increase the number of listed companies from 126 at the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20) to 260 in 2025, the plan said. The plan also proposed eight priorities including helping enterprises to carry out shareholding reforms, making listed companies stronger, expanding bond market, developing private equity funds, and utilizing futures market. Anhui will step up efforts to promote the high-quality development of listed state-owned companies, according to the plan. 23 provincial state-owned firms went public as of December 31, 2021, bringing the province to the 5th in China.
