Anhui's foreign trade soared 21 percent year-on-year to 61.44 billion yuan ($9.51 billion) in August, hitting a record high on a monthly basis, local customs said. The eastern Chinese province’s exports stood at 36.27 billion yuan, up 17.5 percent, while its imports rose 26.6 percent to 25.17 billion yuan. In the first eight months of the year, the province’s imports and exports totaled 438.71 billion yuan, up 26.4 percent from the same period a year ago. The growth rate was higher than the national average of 23.7 percent. Exports increased 26.4 percent to 255.18 billion yuan during the Jan-Aug period, 3.2 percentage points higher than the national average. Meanwhile, imports grew 26.5 percent to 183.53 billion yuan, compared to the national 24.3 percent. China’s foreign trade increased 23.7 percent year-on-year to 24.78 trillion yuan between January and August, largely benefiting from the world’s growing demand for high-value-added and labor-intensive products, China Daily said, citing experts and business leaders.
