East China’s Anhui province saw a 33.3 percent increase in the number of China-Europe freight trains in operation in the first quarter of 2021, customs data showed.

Between January and March, 108 China-Europe cargo trains operated from Hefei, capital of the province, up 33.3 percent year on year, according to the Hefei Customs.

The trains transported 49,900 tons of cargo worth more than 2.1 billion yuan (US$32.1 million) during the first three months, up 26.7 percent and 8.6 percent, respectively.

On March 5-6 alone, a total of four trains departed from Hefei to Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Two new routes were launched in late January and early February, one from Hefei to Czech’s Prague via Horgos, and the other to Hamburg in Germany via Helsinki of Finland.
