Home to 129 listed companies, Anhui ranked ninth in China and first in the Central China region as of March 26, statistics showed. In 2020 alone, 20 local companies got listed in the A-share market, hitting a record high, according to the Anhui Bureau of China Securities Regulatory Commission. Of the 20 IPOs, the STAR board accounted for eight, bringing the province to the sixth spot in the country. Listed companies and corporate bond issuers raised 74.3 billion yuan (about US$11.4 billion) from the capital market during the past year. Meanwhile, two companies were merged and reorganized, with a transaction value of more than 3 billion yuan. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), the province consolidated the strategic position of listed companies as the fundamentals of the real economy and the source of driving force of the capital market, the bureau said. Listed companies contributed to over 30 percent of the total profits of major industrial firms in the province, although they made up less than 1 percent of those industrial companies. More than half of the province’s listed companies were privately-owned ones. In addition, over 50 percent of the total listed companies were engaged in strategic emerging industries like quantum communication, information technology and bio-medicine. From 2016 to 2020, listed companies and corporate bond issuers raised 408.6 billion yuan from the capital market, and 29 mergers and acquisitions were completed, with a transaction value of 159.0 billion yuan. The bureau called for joint efforts to promote the high-quality development of Anhui-based listed companies.
