The Hangzhou-Huangshan high-speed railway is nearing completion and expected to go into operation by the end of this year, the economic regulator of east China’s Anhui province said at a recent meeting.

The 286.8-km rail links Hangzhou, capital of east China’s Zhejiang province, with Huangshan city in Anhui province. It passes a number of well-known tourist destinations, such as the city of Hangzhou, the Qiandao Lake and the Huangshan Mountain.

Construction on the project began in 2014. It will be completed by the end of 2018 at a cost of some 36.55 billion yuan ($5.78 billion).

The Development and Reform Commission of Anhui Province called for concerted efforts to ensure the rail line would become operational as scheduled.

In addition, the authority announced that an acceptance check is being conducted on a rail project connecting Lujiang county with Tongling city. Tracks were finished laying on the 112-km railway in 2016. As planned, it will open to traffic later this year.
