The number of civil airports in East China's Anhui province is expected to surpass ten in 2020 as local authorities are stepping up efforts to build airdromes, Anhui Business Daily reported.
Construction on the Wuxuan airport has been kicked off. Located between Wuhu and Xuancheng cities, the airport is due for completion in 2019. It is designed to handle 1.2 million visits and 596.7 tonnes of cargo on a yearly basis.
Bengbu and Bozhou cities in the northern part of the province have had their airport projects approved by the central government.
In addition to the above three, which are inscribed on the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) for China’s Civil Aviation sector, local authorities are mulling over situating civil airports in Suzhou and Anqing cities as well as Jinzhai county.
Five airports including Hefei Xinqiao International Airport and Huangshan Tunxi International Airport are in operation.
Latest news came that 20 billion yuan will be spent in extending the Xinqiao airport. Extensions include a runway and terminal buildings. The project is expected to start in 2018 and competed in 2020.
China’s flight punctuality rate will hit 80 percent in 2020, compared with 67 percent in 2015, the report said.
