The 'artificial sun', EAST
Recently, at the Institute of Plasma Physics (ASIPP), Hefei Institute of Physical Science (HFIPS) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, researchers completed the upgrading and transformation of the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), dubbed "artificial sun", and started new experiments. From August 2022, the "artificial sun" has experienced a new round of upgrading and transformation work. The researchers maintained, upgraded and transformed the internal components and subsystems of the EAST to improve the overall performance of the facility further. At present, this year's upgrading and transformation work has been completed, and researchers will start a new round of physical experiments, aiming at higher scientific goals such as steady-state high confinement plasma operation with higher parameters.
